    Love these!

The 3-layer hardshell hiking/snow sports pants are amazing quality. There’s so much thought put into the design of these pants it’s hard to know where to start in reviewing them. First, they are 20,000 mm waterproofed and they have equal breathability at 20,000 g. The waist band is gathered most of the way around the waist other than the front where there is a durable, rubberized plastic button. All of the zippers—at the fly and on both sides of the legs—are made of a good quality plastic. The zippers have a waterproof membrane so they aren’t going to leak.

The construction is a medium weight outer shell made out of polyester and an inner shell made out of nylon. The third layer is a heavy-duty reinforced tape at every last seam so they are not going to tear no matter what you put them through. The powder blue is very pretty and leans toward the grey spectrum of blue. It’s one of my favorite colors so just opening the package made me happy. The knees are darted for movement which is good since these pants don’t have any stretch to them.

The cut is flattering for a woman’s figure so not only are they going to perform well and not fall down when you bend over but you will look good conquering that mountain or trail. There are also belt loops in case you want extra protection. The pockets are deep for a woman’s pants (thank you!) and they have mesh on the inside for breathability. The pant legs zip quite a ways up the back so you won’t have to remove your boots to take them…

Serious rain protection for serious rain country

The Pioneer Camp Women’s Rain Pants Waterproof 3-Layer Hardshell Hiking Pants are a genuinely impressive piece of gear, especially if you live somewhere where rain is not just weather — it’s a lifestyle.

I live in western Oregon, where investing in proper rain protection is almost a spiritual practice. If you’re going to spend time outside here, especially on trails, you either commit to staying dry or you accept a life of soggy regret. These pants feel like a very solid commitment to the “stay dry” philosophy.

The 3-layer hardshell construction feels substantial and genuinely waterproof, not just “light drizzle resistant.” The fabric has that reassuring outdoor-gear feel that suggests it can handle real Pacific Northwest conditions — steady rain, wet brush along the trail, and the occasional muddy scramble.

I’m particularly looking forward to putting these through their paces on local trail adventures. From soggy Brice Creek hikes to slushy Blue Pool romps with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, these pants feel like they’re going to be more than up to the task. (Pioneer Camp… if you ever make these for dogs, my Cavalier would like to place an order immediately.)

The fit and mobility are also very good, which matters for hiking. They allow for easy movement without feeling stiff or restrictive, and they layer nicely over regular hiking clothes.

But perhaps the most underrated benefit is the post-hike drive home. Anyone who hikes in the rain knows the misery of sitting in…
